I listed some technology resources in the resources section, but I want to take some time to call out a few specific types of technology I find really interesting! These are specific ones I’ve found, and I will try to keep the page updated on a bi-monthly basis.
Pocket Points: Do you have students who seem to always be on their phones? While this isn’t usually a big issue in my classroom, I found that using Pocket Points has been very beneficial. Long story short, your students get points for not being on their phone. When the phone is locked, the points stack up. The points can be used for free things around campus. At my institution, there is an Insomnia Cookies that a lot of students like to go to. While I used to have maybe a handful of students check their phones during class before I mentioned this app, after it was even less.
OmniFocus: This app is more for teachers to help with productivity. Our lives are busy as is, and we can use anything we can get to help us stay productive. OmniFocus is a task management app that helps you plan projects, personal life, etc. There is even a really cool function where you can assign tasks from your inbox. So if you get a student asking for a recommendation, you file that email away as a task for later! Also, it is compatible for Macs and iWatches.
