This class has been very beneficial in helping me understand sustainability and how I can incorporate it into my classroom. My favorite class was our field trip. IT WAS AWESOME. I also want to incorporate some field trips into my classroom. I found that when we went to the agriculture extensions, I learned about so much unrelated to my field, and everything was extremely interesting. I wish that universities did something similar in first-year classes to help students find majors. Thursday was such a great class. 🙂

YES–I love the idea of first-year students touring all the departments and facilities before being forced to choose (too early) their majors! I would have probably chosen something completely different for myself if I had done that as an undergrad (not that I want that, but think of the possibilities!). Even as a grad student I learned a lot on our field trip, and I feel really confident now in eating anything Oklahoma grown. It was great to see how clean and careful everything was, and also how passionate the people working there were! A better understanding of agriculture and meat/milk production could help bridge the gap between Ag and everything else in OK.

This makes my heart so very happy! All an agriculturalist could ever wish for is people that want to come out to the farm and see everything. To watch someone talk about what they do everyday and to see the passion and pride fill their face is an experience all its own. I am so thankful you all wanted to go so see the units and enjoyed it so much. Never ever hesitate to go out there and they will be more than happy to have you bring your classes out as well. If you ever need anything in the department, just walk over there and ask. They will help out any way they can.
